In vitro fertilization, also known as IVF, is a term that many of us have heard before. But what is it actually? The medical definition of IVF is, “a complex series of procedures used to treat fertility or genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child.” Over this process, a woman’s eggs and a male’s sperm are combined to create an embryo.
But that’s the medical definition of what IVF is. However, the medical definition doesn’t describe the emotional and physical struggles and all the difficulties that go along with the process.
In this episode of “Beyond Clothes,” we talk with Terra Lemke. Terra went through the IVF process with her husband, James. After struggling to get pregnant, she was diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Failure. Her body wasn’t producing enough eggs. Terra describes how James would have to give her multiple shots a day to help her produce enough eggs to create the embryo.
Terra talks how the IVF process was incredibly hard. She describes the experience as an emotional roller coaster. She talks how there's a plan one day, and the next day there's a new one. But even though the IVF process was anything but easy, she talks how the outcome was beyond incredible.
After a long journey through the IVF process, Terra and James were blessed with twins. (The cutest twins ever might we add!) Terra talks how the IVF process was the storm, and Louis and Harlow were the double rainbows at the end.
Whether you’re finding yourself in the midst of a struggle to get pregnant, considering the IVF process, or know someone who is going through, or has been through the IVF process, this episode is for you!
