As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, summer is rapidly coming to an end. Students are trading texting for typing essays and reading tweets for reading novels. Teachers are swapping summer days at the pool for long days in the classroom, and both are saying farewell to another great summer.

The new school year comes with the thought of the impact teachers have on students’ lives. Having a great teacher can change a student's school year, and beyond. I think We have all had at least one teacher when we think back on our education, that had an impact on shaping us in some form. That is why this Women in Our Community feature is incredibly special.

In this episode of the "Beyond Clothes" podcast, we talk with 7th-grade language arts teacher, Abby Berke. Mrs. Berke is going into her fifth year of teaching at Patrick Henry Middle School in Sioux Falls, SD. Abby always knew that she wanted to be a teacher. She talks about how as a child she would force her siblings to play school with her, and she has always had a passion for helping people.

In the episode, Abby talks about the strategies she applies in her classroom, the reward of seeing her students' growth throughout the year (as well as her own growth), and the funniest thing that has ever happened in her classroom. Trust us, you definitely want to hear that!

Abby is one of the many amazing teachers out there, and her story is incredibly inspiring. There is a great chance you will find Abby's story incredibly relatable, and you will think about all the amazing teachers and appreciate everything they do and all their hard work.

If you're looking for a great laugh and some serious inspiration, this episode is for you!
