Heart disease is the number one killer of all Americans. Since 1963, February has been celebrated as American Heart Month. The purpose of American Heart Month is to encourage Americans to join the battle against heart disease.
Not only is heart disease the number one killer of Americans, it’s the number one killer of women worldwide. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year. That is more than all cancers combined. With education and lifestyle changes, 80 percent of all cardiac events can be prevented.
We are so excited to join the fight against heart disease by featuring the AHA’s Go Red For Women Sioux Falls as our February’s Charity of the month.
Since 2004, the AHA’s Go Red For Women campaign has been celebrated during the month of February. This campaign encourages women and their families to take action and live a healthier life. They believe that together we are stronger and unstoppable.
