A few months ago we got the idea to do something to spread kindness around our lovely Sioux Falls community. It's hard right now to turn on the news and see our country so divided. We’ve been hearing a lot of discouraged voices from those around us. We wanted to do something special that would spread some love and kindness to our community.
We decided to take part in National Random Acts of Kindness Week! We challenged ourselves and our followers to perform random acts of kindness throughout the week for their friends, family, and neighbors. Then on Friday at the end of the week, we celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Day!
We kicked off Friday bright and early! Our first act of kindness was to serve breakfast at the Banquet. Around 250 people came to breakfast that morning and it was such a privilege to serve them and see all of their smiling faces.
After serving at The Banquet we headed to Compassion Child Care where we spent the morning reading books to the toddler class and joining them for their outside time. Compassion is a daycare here in downtown geared towards single parent family and low-income families. It was so fun to spend time with these smiling kids. Their joy was absolutely contagious.
After the daycare, we headed to Chelsea’s house where we baked 3 dozen brownies for Fire Station 1. We wanted to do something to thank our community heroes for all they do for us.
While the brownies were baking, we used that time to write encouraging post-it notes and stuffed envelopes with quarters to pay for people’s parking meters. As the brownies were cooling we headed downtown where we taped the quarter-filled envelopes to random parking meters and even made friends with the meter man! We stuck the encouraging post-it notes to cars all along Phillips Ave, hoping to bring a smile to someone's face.
After dropping off the brownies to the firefighters of Fire Station 1, we then headed to Dress for Success to help them sort clothes for their upcoming closet sale.
Dress for Success is an organization whose goal is to provide each of their clients with professional attire as well as interview and job training. We loved having some time to spend at this wonderful organization.
To end our day we headed to the Sioux Falls Humane Society to drop off our dog food donation. We got to take a quick tour of the place and we were able to make some very cute furry friends.
We loved this day of spreading love and kindness around our wonderful city. We want to take a minute to thank all of these wonderful organizations for letting us come and volunteer.
Also a very special thank you to Ileana Perez for spending the day with us and capturing these special moments!
